Fake Eyelashes: Part Two

Remember when I went eyelash shopping in yesterdays post? Well last night I actually attempted to put the eyelashes on for the first time, ever. Here’s how I got on…

Well first of all, I needed:
• A mirror
• Some eyelash glue (my glue was supplied with my eyelash kit)
• A pair of scissors
• A helping pair of hands
You must always read the instruction when trying new things, so I read through my instructions before putting my eyelashes on.

I had to trim the lashes, because they can hurt the corners of your eyes if you don’t put them on trimmed. All eyes are different remember, so measure them out on your lids.

Then I had to apply the glue onto the rim of the eyelashes. I found it easier with someone else either holding the lashes or putting on the glue. The glue was actually quite hard to put on, and I ended up sticking parts of the lashes together before they even got on my lids.

You then place the lashes above your real lashes carefully; don’t poke your eye out; it is quite painful! It’s also difficult to get it on the lid and make it stick. It took me three attempts on one eye before I got it to stick properly. You also reapply the glue if the lashes come off, which can get quite messy!

Personally, I think you need to use both hands to put the lashes on, so don’t use a hand held mirror. Use your bathroom mirror for something like this. Also, my helper suggested pulling your lids down to their side, so you can see your lash ends better.

So after about 20 minutes, I was ready to go with my new eyelashes! I actually received many compliments about them as well, though people could tell they were false. Damn.

So what are the positives about fake eyelashes? Well, they last all night when you get them on properly, so they are great for a night out. I had mine on for about five hours and I had to pull them off before I went to bed.

You can also apply makeup to your lashes to make them look more natural, though you have to be careful, as they can come off.

The negatives of these lashes are that they are easily lost. I actually lost mine before I put them on, and with the glue on them, I was lucky that they didn’t stick to my carpet! I suggest laying down a white sheet or something light on the floor, so you can see the lashes when you drop them.

Also, first-timers will find putting on fake eyelashes hard, which can put a downer on your partying mood. I wouldn’t suggest wearing them for work or for everyday life; they take too long to do and they could come off when you’re at work and ruin your look. Not good!

So, I think that fake eyelashes are really pretty and are great for a night out with the girls, but they are unpractical and shouldn’t be worn for work. They are also easily lost, so in the long run, they could end up being more expensive than mascara or eyelash dye.

Personally, I might stick to my BADgirl mascara from Benefit; they are all the fake eyelashes I need!

Save or Spend - Coats

Spring is nearly upon us, but the weather doesn’t seem to be changing. Fern Cotton (above) has the right idea about the weather though; wear a coat! I have chosen two coats and I want you to decide which one is better; save or spend?

The save coat (left) is a Lipstick Mac from Miss Selfridge priced at £55. This coat is above knee length and is very smart, so it’s good for those new job interviews. It’s also very pretty and suitable for all seasons. However, you will need a good umbrella as this coat doesn’t come with a hood. Unlucky!

The spend coat (right) is a grey parker from Diesel and is priced at £140. This parker may not be smart, but its adjustable waist band means you can show off your figure, even on those rainy days. You’ll also need an umbrella for this, as it doesn’t with a hood.

So which coat do you think is the best? The saver or the spender?

The choice is yours.

How-To for Monolids!

It is rare to see women and men with monolids. Incase you don’t know, monolids are eyes with no creases and most female Asians have these.

Today this is more targeted to those Asians living in the UK that might be interested about how to do proper monolid eye makeup.

I know that it is difficult to find magazines or anything similar that help girls with eyes like us to apply make-up on.

I honestly did not know what to do. I have always preferred to have eyes with creases because there was just more help and almost everyone I knew, had them.

But I have found several YouTube makeup tutorials for monolids that are helpful and will boost your confidence to be proud of having those eyes.

Click on the link which will take you to a website where there is a video tutorial of a girl applying makeup according to a MAC face chart for monolids

I thought this was one of the best tutorials! I have tried pointers out from her and they helped really well! One thing I would like to add though, I have discovered that if you warm up your eyelash curler with a blow dryer (make sure it’s not too hot!) then the actual curl will hold much longer.

It is great that there are also other videos available, that go through the makeup process step-by-step and with different colours. There is gold-purple, orange-gold, pink-green and quite a few more.

I think it is fabulous that they give options for you to choose from. The steps after a while are pretty basic, and they get repeated. For instance, if you watch the gold-purple tutorial video, you can use almost any colour you want and follow the steps again.

If you are in a rush, definitely take a look at the “5 Minute Daily Look for Monolids”. It is very simple, and it only requires eyeliner, no matter if it is pencil or liquid.

Some celebrities who have either have monolid eyes or similar eyes, Asian almond shaped, are actresses for example, Lucy Liu, Bai Ling or like korean singer, Boa. So if you want to try makeup of these celebs or any other, just let me know and I can give you a step by step tutorial on how to achieve their looks.

Ladies, time to show off your shades!

Summer is approaching, so I'd say: "The bigger, the better".

At least that's what I've been seeing.
These are our friends to protect our eyes from the sun. Today we find them not only used when you are actually in the sun but at any time. The Hilton sisters even wear them to a fashion show.

Of course, the sunglasses which the celebrities wear are from designer brands such as Gucci, Dior, Prada or  Bvlgari. Plus, let’s face it – the prices are way out of reach.

Luckily we’ve got high street department stores and online shopping where we can actually afford a pair or two.

ASOS is probably 'the' best place to go search for anything!

They've got a huge selection of sunglasses just for you, in different shapes and sizes.

Most celebrities, like Lindsay Lohan, Paris Hilton, Mary-Kate Olsen and Nicole Richie go for the more rounder shapes and so that it covers up most of their eye.

Like them, I prefer the darker shades to the lighter ones. I feel like there's much more mystery behind it. Here is a selection of sunglasses from ASOS similar to the ones of young female celebs.

I found these tips on how to find sunglasses that match your facial shape:

Oval - these people are lucky as most styles of sunglasses look great on them! Usually they complement your eyebrows shape.

Square - look for narrow styles, try oval or round frames which contrast your square features.

Triangle - stay away from bold colours like red or green, try sunglasses that minimize your face.

Inverted Triangle (Heart shaped) - select sunglasses that widen your face, frames that sit low on your temples are good.

Round - look for sunglasses that lengthen and slim your face, square or rectangular frames are best.

Diamond - the sunglasses you are looking for should widen your forehead while downplaying your cheekbones. So rounded, straight or square frames are suggested.

Hope this helps!

Floral Touch

Floral is going to be huge this spring/ summer, which is why Anne Hathaway’s Oscar’s dress was definitely a winner. The bold red complements Anne’s features perfectly while the floor length gown screams glamour.

Now, I know whenever we see an amazing Oscars outfit like this we just have to recreate the look, unfortunately we don’t all have awards ceremonies to go to so we have to tone it down slightly. Now it’s possible to get the perfect dress that is not only Anne’s style, but also toned down and can be worn to any party.

This Unique Vintage dress has the floral theme perfect, and will look great worn in the summer, particularly to a wedding or garden party. If you want to make it a bit more glam like Anne’s Oscar dress try pinning one end of a scarf under the arm and then put it over your shoulder, loosely around your arm and then pin the other end back under your arm.

Oscars look as easy as that.

Flawless Hair

Perfect hair is a must for every important event and there’s no better way of getting perfect hair than with a stylish up do. Jennifer Garner shows us how to wear an amazing up do flawlessly in this picture.

Jen’s style will suit any face shape and is so easy to achieve you’ll be ready for that party in no time at all.

When preparing this look make sure you use a shine spray when the hair is wet. This will make the style look super sleek and healthy. Dry the hair roughly to add texture to the look. Remember this style is about looking glamorous with absolutely no effort, so don’t do anything too perfectly.

Once hair is dry part it in the middle and then pull over from the side a large sweeping fringe.

Using a curling iron curl all the hair from the tip to about half way up, if the curls aren’t perfect there’s no need to worry.

Leaving out the large fringe and a few random strands gather the hair at the nape of the neck. Loosely wrap into a bun and pin in place.

Lastly spray hair with a good natural look hairspray, and head to the party.

Who wore it better?

Every time celebrities are seen out in the same outfit, the same debate always occurs, who wore it better?

I love seeing a dress going from the catwalk to celebrity to celebrity. And a perfect example is a Chanel dress worn by two A-List Brits, Lilly Allen and Kate Beckinsale. It was Lilly who first wore the Chanel prom number, and then just a month later Kate was seen wearing the same frock, albeit with some sheer black straps.

Personally I love Kate’s chic classy look. But I love how Lilly has kept it young and playful, by wearing her hair down, winged eyeliner and her trade mark mega hoops. Both look stunning by wearing simple shoes with minimal jewellery and accessories. The pattern on the dress is enough without over doing it with.

The dress is a great cut, suiting both girls. It nips in the waist showing of Kate’s petite figure and emphases Lilly’s gorgeous curves. Both girls look healthy and radiant.

But who do you think wore it better?
