For perfect understated glamour, make like your favourite icon and go for a classic French manicure. The French manicure has been a celeb favourite for years, and while many polish colours go in and out of fashion, think last years gothic black and this years white, the French manicure is always going to have a place on the hands of the rich and famous. Yes, this is one look, like the LBD, that is never going out of fashion.
Maintaining this look however is not quite as easy as it seems, and we all know that we don’t have the time or money to go to the nail salon every week, so it’s a must to be able to do it ourselves. The best thing is it really is quite easy.
Step one- Make sure your nails have no existing nail polish on them and wash your hands and nails thoroughly. Follow this by using a hand and nail cream, to make your hands soft a
nd your nails hard as rocks.
Step two- Using a cuticle remover use the soft end to push down the cuticles and use the sharp end to remove and unwanted skin.
Step three- Apply a base coat to your nails. This Rimmel Nail Bright Anti Yellowing Whitening Base Coat is one of the best out there at the moment and can also be used under any colour polish to prevent staining.
Step four- Apply a white coat to the natural whit of your own nails. For a classic French manicure you can go straight along the top of your nail. However, if you follow the natural curve your nails will look longer. Wait for this to dry and apply a coat of light pink polish. This polish should be similar to your own nail bed. Marks and Spencer’s do a great French manicure set.
Step five- After these coats have dried finish with a coat of clear top layer polish. This will give your nails a healthy shine.
And there you have it, understated chic in under 5 minutes.
